Level 5 Coaching and Mentoring (Business)

This match-funded opportunity is for mentors who aspire to have a significant responsibility for coaching and mentoring as part of their daily role either within an organisational context or as a freelance coach and/or mentor.  It would be expected that these individuals can evidence at least a minimum of two years’ experience.

This is a match-funded opportunity for current Help to Grow: Management Course Volunteer Mentors (this means that applicants pay a contribution towards the costs).

Course Details

This ILM training course is provided by experienced, certified, and registered trainers. The programme has been designed to develop those individuals who have the time and commitment to achieve this level of qualification. It is expected that they see their future as professional coaches and mentors and wish to acquire a nationally recognised qualification.

Who is this qualification for?

The Level 5 is ideal for experienced business people who wish to move into a development role or start a career as a freelance business mentor or coach. You may have some experience of business mentoring or coaching in an informal, formal, volunteer or professional capacity.  

This is ideal for aspiring and experienced business mentors and coaches who wish to develop their own skills, knowledge and behaviours with an internationally recognised qualification as a business mentor and coach at Degree Level.

Key Course Learnings
  • To assess your own skills, knowledge, and behaviours in line with coaching and mentoring competencies.
  • To know how to manage coaching and mentoring programmes and processes within different sized organisations.
  • To deepen own understanding, through small Action Learning Sets of 4-6 peers, working together on how the organisational and context can affect coaching or mentoring application.
  • To plan, deliver and review your own coaching and mentoring programmes.
  • To develop own Personal Action Plan for ongoing development.
Total hours of commitment:

This is the number of notional hours which represents an estimate of the total amount of time that could reasonably be expected for an individual to achieve and demonstrate the level of competence necessary for this qualification at ILM level 5.

Guided Time: 43 Hours

  • Six half-day workshops run monthly
  • 1-2-1 sessions with a tutor to meet mentees needs
  • Group supervision sessions

Independent Study: Approximately 160 hours

  • Practical work
  • Personal reflection assessment
  • Records for every session
  • Three 5000-word assignments

Further training opportunities

Volunteer mentors on the Help to Grow: Management Course are able to apply for a match-funded place on ILM 5 or ILM 7 training courses.

This offers a subsidised path for volunteer mentors to access a high-level qualification to support their Business Mentoring.
