ILM Foundation in Business Mentoring

This course is ideally suited to those individuals who would like to develop their mentoring knowledge, skills and understanding in order to enhance their ability and confidence. It has been designed to be practical and interactive with lots of opportunities to work in small syndicate groups with other similar mentors.

This is a fully-funded opportunity for current Help to Grow: Management Course Volunteer Mentors (this means there are no costs for participants).

Course Details

This ILM training course is provided by experienced, certified, and registered ABM trainers. This course has replaced our Level 3 course on the programme and the commercial rate for this programme is approximately £500.

Who is this qualification for?

This course is ideally suited to those individuals who would like to develop their mentoring knowledge, skills and understanding in order to enhance their ability and confidence. It has been designed to be practical and interactive with lots of opportunities to work in small syndicate groups with other similar mentors.

It is ideal for new mentors and is a potential stepping-stone to the level 5 and 7 qualifications. This course has replaced our Level 3 course on the programme.

Key Course Learnings
  • Understand how coaching and mentoring skills and competencies improve performance.
  • Learn how to recognise different traits and preferences in others and be able to adapt your own style to get the best outcomes.
  • Share ideas and experience within a small peer group.
  • Analyse own coaching or mentoring performance and develop a Personal Action Plan for ongoing development
Total hours of commitment:

The total hours of commitment are the number of hours in the workshops plus the practical mentoring plus the capture of reflective learning and a short answer questionnaire.

The following represents an estimate of the total amount of time that could reasonably be expected for and individual to achieve and demonstrate the skills necessary at this level.

This comprises of the following elements:

  • Two half-day workshops 2 weeks apart.
  • A minimum of two sessions with a mentee
  • Completion of two reflective journal entries
  • A short answer questionnaire for assessment

Further training opportunities

Volunteer mentors on the Help to Grow: Management Course are able to apply for a match-funded place on ILM 5 or ILM 7 training courses.

This offers a subsidised path for volunteer mentors to access a high-level qualification to support their Business Mentoring.
