Project ReMAKE

Project ReMAKE

A unique opportunity to work with the innovative charity Project ReMAKE and prison leavers and to guide them through a more positive and constructive form of thinking to help their re-entry.

Project Remake and RemakeEducational are projects working in the Criminal Justice space seeking to help prison leavers by bringing them into the wider society both in terms of business opportunity and education. The overall aim of these programmes is to create a community and a better understanding of people who are left prison and those with criminal convictions. The project has been successfully running for five years in partnership with various universities across the country such as King’s College London, Queen Mary University London,University of Bradford and University of West England. We are now expanding even further into a more national program.

The programme runs for 8 weeks, usually Wednesday evenings with additional weekly mentoring sessions. We work with a clearly defined syllabus which has a combination of classroom study and industry support, which we are happy to share with our mentors. Typically, we take 12-15 prison leavers (called entrepreneurs) who work with student and business mentors to formulate their business idea into a business plan and at the end of the course they present in the form of a Dragons' Den style event to a group of industry professionals who give feedback and help in establishing the business. At the end of the university programme, there is a graduation ceremony which is significant for many people who have never graduated from high school.

We have a need for voluntary business mentors that can support us with our growing number of programmes and supporting our entrepreneurs. Whatever the location, it is possible for all of the mentoring to be done virtually. Our Business Mentors are asked to commit to 8 weeks of mentoring support and donate their time and talents on a voluntary basis. This may be no more than 1- 2 hours per week. With entrepreneurs that have a viable business proposition, there could be opportunities for longer term mentoring support as they progress.

During our programme Business Mentors will have the opportunity to make a difference and leave a lasting impact on someone’s life.  While you teach, coach, and mentor our entrepreneurs, you will be challenged, humbled, and learn a lot about yourself. Mentoring with Project ReMAKE will give those interested a unique view on life and business as well as provide a rewarding personal experience. It could also be useful for there to be support for the Business Mentors in the form of supervisory sessions where needed.

We are interested in any qualified Supervisors who would be happy to offer their voluntary time also.

“The Project ReMAKE programme fuelled my passion to start my own business. I haven’t looked back since! It gave me the opportunity to meet and work with various individuals and professionals from different parts of the industry allowing us to ask questions, test our ideas and answer some thought-provoking questions. What I found most interesting and exciting was the empathises on acknowledging those transferable entrepreneurial skills we once used as offenders and how to use those skills positively now as ex-offenders.” Dwayne, 2019 ReMAKE course
