Mark Walley

ABM Chair

Mark has spent over 15 years in the professional membership body sector as a CEO and senior executive. Most recently as CEO of STEP – Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners and prior to that as Regional MD of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

He is a keen developer of people and his deep-seated belief in the value of professional education, the standards and ethics that sit with them. Operating in the public interest has guided his career choices. He is dedicated to enabling working environments where everyone can be their best and is an advocate for social mobility and inclusion in the workplace.

Motivated by later in life academic success Mark was a volunteer director of Professions for Good. Representing 1.2 million practitioners, P4G worked to uphold fair access, professional ethics and fact-based policy amongst the UK professions. He recently Chaired the Memcom ‘Championing Professionalism’ working party which called on Government to recognise professional bodies as strategic partners in delivering skills, productivity and public service reform.

Mark sits on the Board (Council) of the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors as an independent NED, is an Ambassador for the IoD Surrey and Berkshire Branch and maintains a role as mentor to a diverse group of young professionals through the IoD. He is an ABM Member and currently undertaking the ABM ILM assured Effective Business Mentoring training. He is currently qualifying as an ICF accredited coach.

Mark holds a BSc (Hons) in Financial Services, is a Fellow of the Institute of Directors and is a Chartered Director.
