Course Details

This ILM training course is provided by experienced, certified, and registered trainers. The programme has been designed to develop those individuals who have the time and commitment to achieve this level of qualification. It is expected that they see their future as professional coaches and mentors and wish to acquire a nationally recognised qualification.

Who is this qualification for?

The Level 5 is ideal for experienced business people who wish to move into a development role or start a career as a freelance business mentor or coach. You may have some experience of business mentoring or coaching in an informal, formal, volunteer or professional capacity.  

This is ideal for aspiring and experienced business mentors and coaches who wish to develop their own skills, knowledge and behaviours with an internationally recognised qualification as a business mentor and coach at Degree Level.

Throughout your learning journey, you'll:

  • Master practical mentoring models (GROW, TGROW, CLEAR) aligned with business objectives
  • Develop ethical contracting skills and manage professional boundaries with confidence
  • Complete a minimum of 18 hours of documented mentoring practice with real clients
  • Use diagnostic tools to enhance goal setting and measure tangible outcomes
  • Build reflective habits through supervision that continuously improves your practice
  • Create a 12-month CPD plan to sustain your growth as a business mentor

You’ll also benefit from access to ILM's study membership and resources.

For non-ABM members undertaking the course, once payment is complete, you’ll receive 12 months of free ABM membership at Affiliate or Member level.
Those who go on to successfully complete the ABM ILM Level 7 will qualify to become an ABM Fellow.

Total hours of commitment:

This is the number of notional hours which represents an estimate of the total amount of time that could reasonably be expected for an individual to achieve and demonstrate the level of competence necessary for this qualification at ILM level 5.

Guided Time: 42 Hours

  • Six workshops run monthly
  • 1-2-1 sessions with a tutor to meet mentees needs

Independent Study: Approximately 160 hours

Volunteer mentors on the Help to Grow: Management Course are able to apply for a match-funded place on ILM 5 or ILM 7 training courses. This offers a subsidised path for volunteer mentors to access a high-level qualification to support their Business Mentoring.
