Bio
Tony Mulvahil is a Fellow of the Association of Business Mentors and an experienced business adviser, mentor and practitioner-academic with a particular focus on owner-led small and medium-sized businesses.
Through his advisory practice, Planning for the Best, Tony works with business owners and leadership teams to improve performance, strengthen management capability and create the conditions for sustainable growth. He works with businesses that have outgrown informal ways of working and need greater clarity around leadership, accountability, decision-making and operational discipline.
Tony brings a broad commercial background spanning technology, financial management, project management, operations and business transformation. He has worked with organisations at different stages of development and focuses on the challenges faced by founder-led and owner-managed businesses as they grow, develop formal structures, and plan for succession.
His approach to mentoring is practical, supportive and grounded in the realities of running a business. He works with business owners to understand the specific challenges they are facing, helping them create clearer priorities and stronger management practices.
Alongside his commercial work, Tony is a senior lecturer at the Claude Littner Business School at the University of West London, where he focuses on Knowledge Exchange with the business community. He has developed initiatives that connect students, academics and businesses, including student consultancy and wider SME engagement across West London.
His current areas of interest include SME growth and productivity, leadership and management capability, succession in owner-led businesses, high-performing teams, and the role of universities in supporting regional business development.
Tony holds a BSc in Computer Science from Monash University, is an Associate Member of the Association of Corporate Treasurers, a Member of the Association for Project Management, and holds the ILM Level 7 Certificate for Executive and Senior Level Coaches and Mentors. He is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
His professional and academic work reflects a long-standing commitment to lifelong learning, practical business improvement and helping leaders build stronger, more resilient organisations.
